The Story Behind this Postcard
Toussaint- All Saints Day in old New Orleans is unique in the New World. America’s last European stronghold has many of her old customs dangerously dwindling away yet all Saints is still celebrated at tombs by many old New Orleans family’s and memorialized at some of the city’s cemeteries and public events. Decorating tombs, whitewash & weed time plus a picnic or two may still be found on the first of November. .A public remembrance in candlelit procession form in Lafayette Cemetery at dusk is a treat to the soul, but city wide celebration and the zeal of ole Toussaint as seen in this print are celebrated more by the spirits left behind than those in the flesh.
