Ok we all know what gossip is and it certainly is a big part of our town here—Ms. Scorpio, New Orleans!
But gris-gris??? Many do not know what that is!
Gris-gris (Gree-gree) is a spell, prayer, spirit evoked (sometimes contained) for heal or harm. The word has been translated in French to mean gray which has nothing to do with the African word referring to a charm bag, spell bag, working to fix a physical situation; it is a form of African folk magick which still is used there as well as in the new world.
So:
I can write a Gris Gris Gossip column if I choose—So careful boys and girls in voodoo land—I may just tell on you here if you do not behave!!
In fact send me your worst real bad spell gossip tale from where you are and I will post the juiciest one you send! Anonymous is fine—reality based the best! So for the person that put the severed pigs head on my stoop, the 2 store bought chicken wings under the front tires of my car, the drops of poison in my water and the not so obvious attempts to bring me down that went unseen on the physical plane-I know who you are and saw what you did:

Ok folks welcome to the inside truths
-The world of magickal wars, curses, the evil eye, leaving gris-gris at someone’s door, bad love spells turn stalker true, is not just yesterdays news or propaganda- it lives on Many try to whitewash many of the old ways so that it will become more accepted in modern day-- but the truth is that gris-gris lives! And not all gris-gris is good!
Now for most of us, the more spiritually evolved of the healers and spirit workers out there—I agree with you and send more power to you –we need unite! But it would be naïve and unfair to teach that these things do not happen in modern day. Don’t be fooled by exterior charms or believe everyone follows the three fold law. People do not always practice what they preach.
Yes bad things are still done. It has been said that you can’t heal if you cannot curse. That bothered me for a bit, but it’s the same as saying- to know how to heal means knowledge of poisons --this does not mean to poison but you best know all the side effects and be aware of both sides of the coin. Choose not to curse is the better decision but there are many out there who just wish harm, are nasty, insecure, envious and or jealous of others. Many just let power go to their head. This is certainly not limited to the areas of witchcraft and voodoo it exists more so in the mainstream religions-there are more of them you know. Good priests (and priestesses) and bad ones exist in all religions, if you feel the need to be so black and white with things! Try gris! Or checkered.
The inner need for power to evaluate oneself at the expense of others is a negative human trait- not to be confused with personal power within that is divine and we should claim that. The other power can hide under the guise of politics, authority, agendas and plain ole malice. Many religions who claim to be the ONLY way and thrust themselves upon others with an” or else” or even simply a superior attitude- need realign their agendas--.we need to stop and embrace to survive!
Curses
Talk about curses. We have 2 famous ones I heard as a young child whispered in the yard of parochial school:

Once you drank of her waters you could never really leave New Orleans
The Curse of Marie Laveau
Once you visited New Orleans you always had to come back!
Trapped by the two? Not me; I could overcome such superstitions! Why after all a modern woman in modern times was superior to such things, Right? Wrong!
I can say I was cursed by both for not only did my escape from NEEW Orleans 360 on me but now I not only came back but I HAVE to talk about them every day- both the river and Marie!-- Now I can’t get enough hometown heritage on my plate. I realize now that a curse is magnified by ones self -when one looks at what life brings to you with fear and regret it becomes a powerful curse. But a curse can be a blessing if you let it-- for when you flow as our mother the Mississippi-when you flow with the river, blessings pour from her mouth! Look at what life sends you as a new starting point and positive rather than cringing if fear-Fear is the biggest curse we can accept!
Anyway those curses have blessed Louisiana with a Tourism market, which is the number one growing area for visitors in the country, as well as New Orleans’ #1 industry, our main salvation. We need to thank the River and Marie Laveau for making us known as America’s most Unique city!! Now that’s Voodoo politics!!
A curse or a blessing it’s all up to you! But preach not sister and spill the dirt-the graveyard dirt that is!
Oh yea: Pouring graveyard dirt in front of a door way may have been used for millennia to give one “the sleep of the dead” but it can be used to simply throw into the path of an enemy to make them go away. We call it goofer dust! On the other hand it can be used to help you contact your ancestors too. Many uses for all of gods’ creations
How to Gris-gris
For gris-gris bag one would use a mixture of 3,7 or 9 some say 3,6 or 9 ingredients --animal, vegetable and mineral combined, the selection of those ingredients chosen depending on the goal expected. Now blood sacrifice is not generally a part of Creole voodoo, any more at least but certainly seems to have been a part of all historic religions at one pint or another, Smug Americans hire hit men to do the killing for them so it seems more civilized but in reality…. That’s the pot calling the cauldron black.
SO by animal we can use snakeskin, animal teeth, fur etc. for vegetable we can use herbs, leaves etc and mineral copper, shell, crystals and the like then in ritual call forth the spirits to work anew- together toward the goal etc The gris-gris bag meditational device on which focus, feed, wear and or hide toward desired goals
